Food and wine are a major part of the experience when you come to Villa San Bastiano Fogazzaro.

The Veneto has a strong regional food culture that goes well beyond stereotypical Italian pizza and pasta. You'll encounter risotto, polenta, baccalà, bigoli pasta, Asiago cheese and cicchetti, alongside wines including Prosecco, Ripasso, Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone.

Vicenza is particularly well positioned for this because several important wine and food areas are accessible on day trips.

And that's arguably Vicenza's real advantage

If someone has already seen Rome, Florence or Venice, Vicenza offers a different kind of Italian trip. You can still see UNESCO-listed Renaissance architecture and major works of art, but the city is small enough that sightseeing doesn't have to dominate the day.

A particularly good trip would be Vicenza → Verona → Bassano del Grappa/Asolo → Prosecco Hills → Venice, perhaps adding the Dolomites if you have more time. It combines some of northern Italy's greatest architecture with wine country, smaller towns and spectacular landscapes without requiring huge travelling distances.

At Villa San Bastiano you will be well looked after; our villa manager will be able to organise sightseeing trips in the city and many places further afield, including wineries producing wines of fabulous quality.
